UWEZO Youth Empowerment is a youth led disabled persons organisation (DPO), run by and for young disabled people in Rwanda.
Volunteer Services Overseas (VSO) Rwanda was the first funder for UWEZO since 2013. UWEZO was among a Rwandan DPOs that were awarded the INSPIRED Grants between 2014-2016 and as a result implemented the “CONNECT Project” that provided internship opportunities for 45 youth graduates with disabilities by which 26 secured employment and many more are getting opportunities progressively.
VSO’s grant did not only support employability opportunities for youth graduates with disabilities but it also made the world know that UWEZO exists.
Today VSO funds the “Imbere Heza Project” which aims at enabling children aged 10-14 enrolled in schools have access to rightful sexual and reproductive health education.
This is a pilot project rolled out in 10 schools of Kicukiro district in the City of Kigali.
